- jackmeat23. August 2025My quick rating - 7.0/10. I have been meaning to check this one out. The very first episode of SVU. I say that since this has to be one of the first stories of rape and he said/she said in recorded history. This Damon/Affleck bromance flick, directed by Ridley Scott, looks damn good. It is epic when it needs to be, and from costumes to scenery, everything is just spot on. Adam Driver plays the scumbag who pits the two against each other, all for a woman, Jodie Comer. We have all been there. The story of what happened is split up into basically 3 points of view from each of the parties. Count Affleck doesn't really need a point of view since he is just the Lord who is more or less egging the whole bit of infidelity on from the sidelines. The acting here is also very well done, and everyone, minus Afflecks hairdo comes off as completely believable. So the story itself seems straightforward enough as to which version of Comers story you believe. There is no doubt of what happened, just the tension leading up to the actual act of adultery and the final consequence of a duel to end the dispute and prove who is telling the truth by way of combat. Throughout the movie, the combat scenes are expertly filmed, so expect no less when you make it to the brutal climax of this one. A completely medieval take on more modern atrocities that are still dealt with today. I don't think the final resolution of who is telling the truth would still work, but I could go for a fight to the death to settle the score. Definitely, an impressive flick that I believe was held down by a 143-minute runtime and a cast that you really wouldn't think throwing in the same flick would be able to pull off the individual performances to keep your attention, but they sure did.
- makdelart11. März 2026I agree with the opinion that the film is a medieval soap opera, due to the moral theme it tells, rather than its reference to the epic events of the era. The plot is based on historically documented facts and presents a series of the same events from the perspective of three people, which lead to the final duel. The film looks truly magnificent: the cinematography, the lighting of individual scenes, the costumes, the set design. The acting is of a high standard. The duel scene is realistic and well rendered, although somewhat marred by restless editing. Once again, Ridley Scott shows us the Middle Ages on screen, and once again it looks really good.
- MrTrivet28. Juli 2025Oh wow, what a film. The tension was built from the very beginning, and I believe it absolutely delivered. The costumes were excellent, the conflict was well developed, and the acting felt authentic. Ridley Scott is back in form - this is a brutal, bitter tale about truth, memory, and patriarchy. The story is told from three different perspectives, allowing us to witness the same events through the eyes of different characters, which brilliantly illustrates how emotions can cloud objective judgment. Jodie Comer gives a phenomenal performance - her character is the heart of the story. Damon and Driver are great, and Affleck is surprisingly colorful. The final duel is a masterclass in tension and emotion. The slower pace and narrative structure may not be for everyone, but for me, this is an almost complete film.
