The Killing of a Sacred Deer Ratings & Reviews
- VarunOctober 19, 2024I was quite disappointed with the ending because so many aspects of this movie are great. Yorgos is so meticulous with his timing in making absurd deadpan moments work and the cinematography is superbly crafted to enhance the weirdness and foreboding. Barry Keoghan’s unhinged stalking is scary to watch and there’s tons of disturbing behaviours from all the other characters. I think the suspense, mystery and odd peculiarity are the main intrigue in the first half of the movie, but after the children get sick, the movie’s focus slowly starts to become one note. I was dying to know what Martin did to the kids and they never explain it in the end. Chalking it up to a metaphorical supernatural power was a stupid cop out. For me personally, absurd weirdness only works if there are certain realistic and rational rules that can’t be crossed, otherwise the director can just use any ass-pull explanation and audiences are duped after slogging away for 2 hours in this case. The movie still has some interesting and quirky scenes that you won’t find anywhere else, and did a good job exploring some themes but ultimately the plot didn’t work me and I felt like I had wasted my time.
- RyezooFebruary 15, 2025Maybe it's just me; but this directors movies never fully do it for me. Like The Lobster, I found this to be a really well made film. The cinematography, the acting, and the trippy score are great. It does a great job of making the viewer uncomfortable. This movie left me with a lot of questions and I feel like I will enjoy this more on a second viewing.
- DigitalDisappointmentFebruary 8, 2025Everybody is wooden, awkward, unnatural, providing shitty performances throughout the movie and making it ultimately unwatchable between the obnoxiously loud, jarring sound effects that provide literally no benefit to the production.
