- Oʂɯαʅԃσ RσყҽƚƚMarch 17, 2025The Pace: It's fast, it doesn't get stuck too much in trivial world building, and it gets to the antics very quickly to start getting into the thrills. The Invitation has a lot of things to decipher in the short run time, but it's always moving and seldom slowing down to get bogged in higher order thinking. For those looking for just a way to turn off the mind, this can be a giant plus alongside the appeal of one component of the story.
- Kevin WardJuly 6, 2025I think this film makes a couple missteps that prevent it from truly landing. First, I think that disguising the twist (both in marketing and in the opening of the film) could have gone a long way to making this a really good watch. Second is that this would have really benefitted from an R-rating. Instead we’re kind of left with a low scare, low surprise, middling sort of horror flick. When compared to some of the other great horror films that have come out this year though, The Invitation unfortunately pales in comparison. I was really hoping this would be a nice vehicle for Nathalie Emmanuel to potentially get more leading roles, but that’s probably not going to happen. Not a bad film overall, there’s just a lot better options out there.
