- festac77August 11, 2026I rented The Guyver as soon as it became available at Blockbuster, back in an era when we were starved for anything even remotely comic-book, manga, or anime-adjacent. At the time, I absolutely loved how committed the movie was to the source material, particularly the lore, action, creature designs, costumes, and practical effects. It felt like someone had actually tried to bring a manga to life rather than simply borrowing the name. I haven't seen it since then, so I have no idea how well it holds up by today's standards. But at the time, I was more than satisfied with this gloriously ultra-violent, low-budget interpretation of the Guyver manga. For a teen hungry for anything remotely like the comics and anime I loved, it was exactly the kind of movie I wanted to see.
