- Manuel FrangisMarch 26, 2025I just watched The Goonies again and I give it 5 out of 5 stars. This movie is pure adventure magic. It is one of those timeless classics that still holds up no matter how old you are. Whether you are watching it for the first time or the tenth, it captures that feeling of childhood wonder, friendship, and discovery in a way that very few movies ever do. The story follows a group of kids who call themselves the Goonies, and they set out on one last adventure before their homes are taken away by developers. When they find an old pirate map in the attic, it leads them into a wild underground treasure hunt filled with traps, tunnels, and secrets. It is part treasure hunt, part coming-of-age story, and it balances both perfectly. Each of the characters stands out in their own way. You have Mikey, the brave leader with a heart full of hope. Mouth is the fast-talking wise guy. Data is the gadget genius with all his homemade inventions. Chunk is the clumsy, lovable goofball who steals half the scenes with his reactions. And the rest of the group brings their own unique energy too. You totally believe these kids are real friends, and their chemistry is a huge part of what makes the movie work. The adventure is nonstop. From the moment they set off to find the treasure, the movie never slows down. There are hidden passageways, booby traps, secret codes, and even a pirate ship. Every scene is packed with something new and exciting. The pacing is perfect, and it keeps you hooked from start to finish. The villains, the Fratellis, are hilarious and just the right amount of scary for a kid’s adventure movie. They are criminals chasing the kids through the tunnels, and while they are threatening, they are also totally ridiculous in a way that makes the whole movie even more fun. Their banter and the way they get outsmarted over and over again adds a ton of laughs. The sets and atmosphere are amazing. The underground caverns, the water slides, the skeletons, the ship—it all looks incredible even now. There is something magical about how real everything feels. It is like you are right there with the Goonies, crawling through tight spaces and discovering lost history one clue at a time. The soundtrack and score fit the tone perfectly. There is just the right mix of 80s energy and epic adventure music to keep you in the moment. The theme sticks in your head, and it makes the big moments feel even more exciting. The heart of the movie is the friendship between the Goonies. It is about sticking together, not giving up, and believing in something bigger. You feel their bond and you root for them every step of the way. It is funny, emotional, and full of that childhood magic that makes you wish you had an adventure like this too. I give The Goonies 5 out of 5 stars because it is one of those rare movies that gets everything right. It is fun, exciting, emotional, and packed with personality from start to finish. It has action, laughs, and heart, and it still hits just as hard today as it did when it first came out. Overall The Goonies is a legendary adventure movie that never gets old and deserves every bit of love it gets. I loved it as a kid and still love it now. Goonies never say die.
