That grainy tape, the whirring of the VCR and the laughter in our living room are etched into my memory. Now decades later I still think the film holds its charm. What makes The Gods Must Be Crazy so enduring is its ability to poke fun at civilization without cruelty. It’s a satire, yes, but one wrapped in warmth and it invites us to laugh at ourselves and our gadgets. That VHS tape may be long gone, but the feeling it gave me is still alive.
