The Girl in the Pool
Directed by Dakota GormanA well-to-do family man is forced to struggle through a surprise birthday party moments after hiding the murdered corpse of his mistress.
- Monkey See! Monkey Review!!September 6, 2025It was genuinely refreshing to see Freddie Prinze Jr. back on screen. Known for his teen heartthrob roles in the early 2000s, he takes a surprising turn here as a husband and father grappling with a spiraling crisis. It’s a mature, emotionally fraught role that marks a clear departure from his earlier work—and he handles it with a compelling intensity. TLDR -> Good, but not great! Definitely worth a watch!! While the film isn’t without its flaws, I’d still recommend it to fans of murder mysteries. It delivers enough intrigue and tension to keep you engaged, even if it stumbles in places. One of the more challenging aspects of the viewing experience was watching the protagonist teeter on the edge of a breakdown for much of the film. His inability to hold it together felt repetitive at times, though perhaps that was a deliberate choice to heighten the suspense. The buildup was solid, but the climax felt undercut by a rushed and somewhat unsatisfying ending. Without giving too much away, the escape plan could have used more thought and screen time—it felt hastily executed, which weakened the payoff. Even if the outcome remained the same, a more strategic and drawn-out resolution would have added depth and tension. That said, I did enjoy the film overall. It’s a worthwhile watch for anyone who appreciates a dark, twisty narrative with murder mystery elements at its core.
