Slam Dunk: The First Slam Dunk (2022) — Review As a long-time Slam Dunk fan, this movie is a total nostalgia trip—packed with energy, emotion, and love for the original series. The animation (even with CGI) is impressive, and the new official English dub brings fresh life to the characters. It’s awesome to see so many references to classic moments from the TV show and to finally get some real depth on Ryota Miyagi (#7). Just a heads up: the film focuses on one intense tournament match, not the whole Inter-High journey, so you’ll probably finish wanting more. But that’s part of its charm—it leaves you fired up and rooting for Shohoku all over again. Highly recommended for fans of sports anime and anyone who grew up watching Slam Dunk. Whether you’re new or returning, this is a must-watch that captures what made the series special—no spoilers, just pure basketball hype and nostalgia!💯👍😊

It's complete adolescent nonsense with a sprinkling of directorial ego. I think this can only offer something to people that have already invested too much in these characters elsewhere and should know better. It's terrible and sometimes exhaustingly so.

This movie slaps so hard. The amazing animation is so good at capturing even the smallest of details, from the sweat on the players’ faces, the fabric of clothes, the camera angles, every movement is meticulously rendered on screen combined with perfect sound design to immerse you in the wildly kinetic nature of a basketball game. The story of Ryota’s family was beautiful, using minimal exposition and memory flashbacks to punch you with heart-wrenching emotions. The non-linear storytelling was a great choice to explore a little backstory of each player and thus sustaining and reinvigorating your excitement for the game for 2 hours straight. I’ve seen these scenes in other movies too, but I still had my mouth open and mind singularly focused during those peak moments of a match, reminding you why sports are so magical to watch. Although I’m not a basketball enthusiast, I know I’m going to remember this movie for a very long time.
