The third installment of the Omen series is a fairly weak film that could easily have been completely forgettable if not for Sam Neill, who carries a large part of the production on his shoulders. As the adult Damien, he manages to be charismatic and at times genuinely sinister, even though the script doesn’t always give him material worthy of his screen presence. The film is extremely uneven - every now and then it delivers scenes that remind us what made the series famous in the first place, drawing on satanic panic and a sense of looming dread. The music also does a lot of the heavy lifting, with its intense choral sound giving the film a properly dark and ominous tone. Unfortunately, beyond these few moments the movie feels like a diluted finale to what should have been a much grander story. The apocalyptic conflict between good and evil is ultimately reduced to a rather small-scale plot involving a group of somewhat inept priests trying to hunt down the Antichrist, which fails to convey the sense of scale or finality such a story should carry.

Kinda a letdown after the first two. The whole "Damien vs. the world" vibe is there, but it feels a bit dragged out and doesn’t really hit like the others. It’s got its moments, but overall, it’s just not as exciting or creepy as you’d hope. If you’re a fan of the series, you might still enjoy it, but don’t expect anything too great.

Commits the unforgivable movie sin of being boring, despite a decent performance from Sam Neill.
