The Fifth Seal Ratings & Reviews
- M08YOctober 4, 2025The Fifth Seal is a facinating exploration into inner workings of the moral compass. Would you rather be guiltless monster or a broken man with a guilt-free concience? While seeming a fairly straight-forward question at first, it turns out to be a facinating journey of discovery among four men in facist Budapest. Their journey of moral self-discovery puts them in a situation where their true colours are revealed and the results are surprising. To me, the most interesting display of moral character came in the form of a lesser character who vanishes half way through the film. Films in 2025 seem to have lost the ability to ask moral questions and instead bludgeon you with their own views. Films like The Fifth Seal are a breath of fresh air in todays climate, well worth the time to watch. The audio and visuals are all what you would expect from a low budget Hungarian movie from the 70s.
