The Eschatrilogy: Book of the Dead Ratings & Reviews

My quick rating - 3.8/10. A bit overboard on the ominous music to begin this one. We've got an anthology of stories all based around zombies. The tie-in story is that of a survivor who is found, and upon inspection, they find a diary of the stories he had seen along the way before being brought to this shelter. The first story is one of those zombie ideas where they are aware of what they have become, and in this one, the zombie remembers family members and even defends them. This seems to be where the infection came from, as they showed some strange demon-looking thing with a cowboy hat who informs a couple of stranded blokes on the road that they must "walk with him" for a ride. Next thing you know, zombie outbreak. The second story demonstrates the low budget we are dealing with. It isn't so much that the zombie makeup is bad, even though it is. But the incomplete nature of doing it is more of a problem. Back of necks, hands not done, things like that make it look cheesy when this isn't attempting to be a comedy. The story is about a young adult looking for his mom, and this takes him to a bunch of scenery mistakes, city, field, warehouse, and the town, all in moments of each other. Seems the point here was showing his selfish nature would catch up with him when he wouldn't help others trying to survive. The final story was a bit better and the best of the 3, which saw a man trying to get somewhere safe with his son. The only small issue is that he has been bitten by a zombie and will be turning into one of the undead at any point. On the way, they run across a sanctuary at a farmhouse with a fanatic priest condemning the dead and an equal number of paranoid survivors to give the zombie horde a run for who will get to kill them first. All this mediocre entertainment is finally wrapped up by a story that sees the return of the cowboy demon that has no explanation whatsoever, and leaves the whole thing with a very unsatisfying ending. Definitely not something to run out and find, but seeing an English zombie anthology flick was a new one for me.
