The Education of Aunt Georgiana
Directed by Maurice CostelloA very wealthy old lady. Mrs. Black, living with her grand-nephew, Harry, whom she rules with a rod of iron, invites Phyllis Perry, her grand-niece, to spend two weeks with her. Phyllis being a very headstrong girl, and not liking her aunt's tyrannical ruling, at first refuses the invitation, but later, under her mother's persuasion, consents to go. When she arrives, she is amused at Harry, who is made to dress in stiff and semi-puritanical fashion. She shocks her aunt by practicing calisthenics in a gymnasium, getting Harry to dress in up-to-date clothes, falling asleep when Harry is reading and generally misbehaving herself. Phyllis takes a fancy to Harry, who falls desperately in love with her. She sets to work to make a man of him, telling him that he must have a will of his own if he is ever going to amount to anything. She teaches him to dance and they go in secret to a hop at the boathouse. Mrs. Black discovers their absence and sits up all night to catch them. When they come home in the early morning and she upbraids Phyllis. Harry rebels and tells her that he will not live under her tyranny any longer, but will go out into the world to shift for himself. He leaves the house that very night. Mrs. Black locks Phyllis in her room, fearing she will follow him. A burglar breaks into Mrs. Black's room, terrifying her with a revolver, and is about to rob her when Phyllis, who has seen him enter, but cannot get out of her room, climbs down the vines to the veranda, gets into Mrs. Black's room, and holds up the burglar till help can be summoned. Mrs. Black becomes convinced that there is good in her self-willed niece and she takes her into her arms and consents to her marriage with Harry.
