The Descent Ratings & Reviews
- M08YNovember 26, 2025The Descent is a solid little horror flick that does some serious heavy-lifting with a tiny budget. While not being quite as claustrophobic as some of the caving horror stories on YouTube, The Descent does a remarkable job of making every single scene feel enclosed and desperate. The cave in scene is incredibly uncomfortable to watch. I really appreciated the slow build up to the introduction of the creatures and how all of the characters come across as sensible and level-headed. Low budget horror movies usually resort to characters being horrendously stupid to make certain plot points work but it's much better when they keep their wits about them and stuff still goes wrong. The cast all being their A game here. Audio and Visuals. The audio is fine all the way through, nothing particularly interesting to note. The visuals are however more interesting. Taking places underground, the lighting is REALLY important to get right and 90% of the time, this film gets it very right. There are however a few scenes where the lighting is impossibly good for a single glow stick. I'm willing to put this aside given the tiny budget and challenging conditions of the filming. The bluray isnt the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. I'm keen to get my hands on the 4K to see if it's much better, but £60 is a tough pill to swallow.
- DJOctober 28, 2024A “modern” classic. The Descent is horror perfection. It’s claustrophobic, it’s scary, you feel for the actresses and they do a great job immersing you in the experience. Director Neil Marshall did amazing work with this film.
- ghost0neMay 16, 2025Maybe... don't go into a cave that isn't on any maps. Just a thought.

- StairwaytothestarsAugust 4, 2025Intense, exciting, frightening, suspenseful, and at times very claustrophobic. As the exploration delves deeper and darker Into THE DESCENT, there is no turning back from a world that is absent. There are no rocky performances and the movie never caves in!
