THE CORPSE VANISHES. 1942. . Brides at the alter are falling dead. Their bodily fluids are needed to keep a disfigured woman beautiful. . The casting of tne movie was as well as it could be. . Bela Lugosa (of Dracula fame) could equally have been played by another actor. But I suppose the producers felt they needed someone with "name status" in a movie with generally uknown actors. . LUANA WALTERS did a basic but admirable job portraying a reporter, Patricia Hunter. Walters lived in Los Angeles all her life. Most of her career in Hollywood were small roles that were uncredited. She was very pretty in this movie. Sadly, she died at age 50 from alcohol abuse. . This movie is a somewhat solid production. Not completely low-buget. . The art director for the sets of the house / mansion did a good job with furniture. There is a wardrobe closet tnat has a most intricate and interesting design on its doors. The scenes with the closet are brief but noticable. . The lighting designer had a couple of night scenes with a car turning, headlights toward us, while a figure on the left is illuminated by a single light from above. A nice atmospheric touch. . The costumes for the women were interesting to see because of the year they were created: 1942 (World War 2). The costumes for Luana Walters were especially fashionable, including her hats. . And the cars were wonderful! From our point of view in the year 2025, the cars are beautifully vintage. But they were normal and natutal for those years. . The standard soundtrack was stirring: reflecting the emotions, excitement, and atmosphere of the story. But the music was unimaginative. All in all, the movie was entertaining.
