The Conqueror Ratings & Reviews
Mister Arn
June 7, 2025
“The Conqueror” stars John Wayne as Genghis Khan, and it only goes downhill from there. His trademark cowboy swagger feels wildly out of place, and the stiff dialogue doesn’t do him any favors. The forced romance with Susan Hayward, who primarily serves as distressed window dressing, adds to the awkwardness. What unfolds is a spectacle, loud and lavish, yet completely detached from any genuine cultural or historical context.
The Contending
Frank J. Avella
The film is loaded with acrobatic stunt horse scenes, ridiculous pretentious dialogue, anachronistic moments galore and a perpetually pissed-off Agnes Moorehead... Oh, and the tableau pièce de résistance, Wayne being paraded around in a Christ-like pose!
Dare Daniel
Daniel Barnes
John Wayne in the role he was born to never play.

Howard Hughes' anachronistic saga is one of the worst films ever made with an embarrassing performance of John Wayne as Genghis Khan the Warrior.

No one comes out of this train wreck holding their head up.
