The first official movie from the cast of the sketch comedy troop “The Whitest Kids You Know”, but strangely not their last despite the death of Trevor Moore and Zack Cregger being such a big deal horror director after “Barbarian”. They have an animated movie they’ve completed called “Mars” that we will see eventually. This film, although extremely low budget and even a little raw in places, works well. It’s quite funny to watch the troop play out a Civil War scenario with two bumbling idiots who think the South is trying to outlaw weed and try to organize a protest that the South thinks is a secret meeting from the North and they think the same so it turns into a bloody battle. That leads the idiots on a journey to make sure the country legalizes it, even though no one knows what they’re talking about. It’s a fun premise and they carry it well. The scene where the soldier is bragging about firing a gun at a perfectly straight angle made me laugh out loud in an empty house. Overall this movie is solid…if you’re a fan of their subversive and line crossing humor style. After all, these were the guys who did a podcast after their dear friend and cast mate died saying it was due to him trying to get a certain part of his body in his mouth. He succeeded, but at what cost if he came and went that way? That’s some serious line crossing humor. That’s what they’ve always done. This is a strange, often funny and sometimes very dark movie with some solid performances from all five members. Just don’t watch it if you get easily offended or don’t find this type of humor funny.
