"The Brain That Wouldn't Die". 71 minutes. 1962. Black and white. . There is no tension or suspense. The horror of a decapitated nead is too watered down because there are too many characters who are given more screen time than the talking nead. . There would have been more interst, perhaps, if we saw scenes ftom the head's point of view, from her eyes. . The movie could have been made more unsettling than it is if the head had said what it felt like to be without a body, without a heart. We get no sense of the helpless horror she was in. . The head was was too clean. In my opinion, there should have been sweat and worry lines on the face. She was beheaded in an accident. Yet, there are no bruises or stitches. . The film could have done without the creature behind the locked door and the fast ending. At the end, the head should have screamed. . The weaknesses in the film did not come from the actors but from what the director and writer could have done but did not. . The soundtrack had atmospheric moments. Review by Charles Ynfante.
