The Bourne Identity Ratings & Reviews
- adecariaJuly 15, 2025How the screenwriters turned this into a strong movie--while assassinating half of the book's plot (Carlos)--might be just as amazing as the book itself. Matt Damon's Bourne is a weapon of efficiency, not emotion, and there's not as much chemistry between him and his abducted lover as Ludlum originally penned in the story. It's action over acting all the way. Side note: this movie is my reason why I don't like to read the book before watching the movie!
- mickerdooJune 27, 2025Incredible start of it all. So satisfying. A resourceful and exceptional assassin with an identity crisis. So entertaining. Great sequences.
- Spaceman JoeMay 29, 2025Solid spy movie with an interesting plot.
- TanalienNovember 2, 2024Matt Damon explains the production team’s goal with The Bourne Identity: "Our hope was to build a movie that the action was integrated into, so that you invest in the characters and you really believe that their problems are problems that you might have. These kind of ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances." Not only did they hit their own benchmark, they changed actions movies for good.
- SkeltonApril 21, 2025I can remember watching The Bourne Identity for the first time over two decades ago—and even now, it holds up like it was made yesterday. There’s something timeless about the way this film redefined the spy genre. It’s gritty, grounded, and relentlessly paced, without ever needing to lean on over-the-top effects or flashy gimmicks. Matt Damon delivers a brilliant performance as Jason Bourne—cool, mysterious, and deadly efficient, yet with a vulnerable edge that makes you root for him from the start. The film keeps you hooked as much with its emotional weight as it does with its action. What’s most impressive is how The Bourne Identity still feels relevant. The car chases are tight, the fight scenes are raw, and the tension is constant. It’s a smart, slick thriller that set the tone for an entire generation of espionage films—including Bond’s grittier reboot. 4/5. A modern classic that hasn’t lost a step.
- Dave BarnesMarch 12, 2025Still my favourite action movie. The best of the Bourne movies as it introduces us to Bourne and the secret world that surrounds him. Great action and acting in this one from everyone makes this a hugely enjoyable movie to watch. I watched the old version from the 1980s and it's hard to think that it was the same story with how wooden it was.
