The Bachelor Ratings & Reviews

An old but good movie. There are moments in the script where the writing is a somewhat over-the-top silly. This is such a small percentage of the movie and doesn't spoil it. Filled with humour and warm romance, we have happily watched this twice now. The acting overall is a high standard. So enjoy - it's fun at a good price - just add popcorn.
Washington Post
Desson Thomson
Business as usual.
New York Post
Lou Lumenick
Unremittingly vulgar and inept.
USA Today
Susan Wloszczyna
The humor never strikes the right champagne-bubbly tone.
Entertainment Weekly
Lisa Schwarzbaum
Just say I don't.
Detroit News
Susan Stark
The new film takes a heavy approach to plain foolishness and doesn't exactly gain loft from the presence of O'Donnell in the centerpiece role. His range is limited to several shades of bland.
San Francisco Chronicle
Edward Guthmann
A pretty lame premise for a movie.
CNN.com
Paul Tatara
"The Bachelor" is as generic as they come, the kind of commercial fabrication that sets up a pair of hackneyed concepts, then runs them in concentric circles until there's enough footage to cut together a movie.
Chicago Reader
Lisa Alspector
Viewers have almost two hours to become thoroughly disgusted
Variety
Todd McCarthy
You don't have to know and love Buster Keaton's inspired 1925 farce "Seven Chances" to dislike the modern remake "The Bachelor," although it certainly doesn't hurt.
Film.com
Tom Keogh
An acceptable comedy.
Houston Chronicle
Jeff Millar
Steve Cohen's screenplay, is pretty much DOA.
San Francisco Examiner
Wesley Morris
Painfully unfunny.
Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Steve Murray
The funny thing is, nobody who made The Bachelor seems to notice that the script pinpoints its own formulaic emptiness before wheezing on to its foregone happy ending.
Salon.com
Mary Elizabeth Williams
The Bachelor doesn't generate enough laughs or sighs to hold together.
Boston Globe
Betsy Sherman
Probably the best that can be said about The Bachelor is that it gave a lot of work to female extras.
Philadelphia Inquirer
Desmond Ryan
Feeble and formulaic.
Chicago Tribune
Mark Caro
You know a movie is desperately overreaching when Peter Ustinov, affecting a dreadful southern accent as Jimmy's grandfather, must yell into a megaphone for no apparent reason: 'The human condition!'
New York Times
Stephen Holden
Its satire is too broad to carry much of a sting.
Los Angeles Times
Eric Harrison
O'Donnell and Zellweger are easy on the eyes, but we're asked to take it on faith that they have other qualities that would make a person care for them.
