- RazorbitzNovember 29, 2025A very okay horror film that I remember liking more than I did on the rewatch. What I appreciate the most about it is that it doesn't waste your time and there is fun to be had, but just didn't grab me in the same way it did when I saw it as a teen. Great concept and worth a watch if you haven't seen it already.
- CravanThePugilistNovember 3, 2025Outstanding horror, of a quite rare, very subtle bent... the two leads are superb, the dread in the direction/cinematography is superb, everything about it came as a big surprise to me the first time I saw this. They just don't make many films so unafraid to so perfectly slowburn like that.
- rg9400October 22, 2025I am going through the Science of Scare list which ranks horror movies based on viewer heart rates and heart rate variance. The Autopsy of Jane Doe holds an admirable rank of 19 on the 2025 list. First off, why did no one tell me this movie starred Logan Roy? It instantly feels like a more creative premise than a lot of the recent horror movies I've been watching, driven by a central mystery of a strange death and a procedural-esque approach to uncover the secrets via an autopsy. I'm sure this alienated some horror fans, but I found it enthralling, where almost the entirety of the first half is just the dialogue between father and son coroners as they try and understand the weird biological phenomena present within this corpse. I would not say it is exactly scary, but it can be unsettling and eerie as they dig further and further into what could have caused her death. The movie feels almost Hitchcockian in its limited setting and very limited cast, driven by dialogue and the Checkov Gun trope of the camera hovering over objects that you know will become relevant later on. Brian Cox is always a delight, and although I did not think Emile Hirsch's acting was notable, his character and that father-son dynamic was engaging and made me actually interested in the characters, something a lot of horror movies struggle to do. Their whole interplay centered around their role in trying to find motives felt like a distinctive theme that would become relevant for the conclusion. Unfortunately, I think where this movie struggles is actually the horror elements. Once the horror starts kicking in, it becomes really chaotic, and not in a good way. I found it disorienting more than scary, with one scene where Brian Cox is flailing around in smoke that almost seemed laughable since I couldn't understand what was supposed to be happening. None of the horror moments felt as creative as the premise, and I honestly didn't find any of them remotely scary. I kind of wish the movie stuck to the more slow-burn approach that was more disturbing than downright jump-scarey. It also kind of makes the mystery end up feeling flatter than it should have been. I don't think the answer is necessarily boring, but it feels more driven by delivering supernatural style horror instead of the more human psychological horror that the movie's first half sets up. I'm actually surprised it did so well in this Scare Metric because I didn't find the jump scares to be particularly effective, but maybe that speaks to the effectiveness of the tension driven by the medical drama at the center of this story. Overall, this is a unique horror movie with an engaging premise that is strongest when it isn't trying to be a horror movie.

- Sam MSeptember 20, 2025a few jump scares, not much happens for the first half of the movie ... its alright
- Josh CJuly 20, 2025Nothing special. Wasn’t horrible. Very much had a TV movie look to it.

- cultfilmlikerMay 7, 2025It’s funny that I almost didn’t rewatch this bc my first watch had such an impact on me. There was definitely some I forgot tho! Perfect build-up : action ratio Why do I feel like everyone in this film is a terror to work with? lol Watching this with the windows and doors wide open - very fun! Big recommend!
