The Angry Birds Movie Ratings & Reviews
- Manuel Frangis2d agoI just watched The Angry Birds Movie and I give it 2.5 out of 5 stars. It is one of those movies that is fine for what it is, but it did not really do much for me. It is colorful, loud, and full of energy, but most of the humor feels like it is aimed squarely at younger kids, and the story never really grabbed me. It has a few funny parts and some solid animation, but overall, it felt kind of forgettable. The movie follows Red, an angry bird with a short fuse, who ends up getting sent to anger management after causing trouble in his peaceful island community. There he meets Chuck and Bomb, two other outcasts, and together they end up being the only ones who suspect that a group of mysterious pigs might be up to something shady. The setup is simple, and you can tell they tried to build a story around a mobile game that never really had one to begin with. Jason Sudeikis voices Red, and he does a solid job. He brings a sarcastic edge and some good comedic timing, but the script just does not give him much to work with. Red is supposed to be misunderstood and kind of grumpy, but it feels like they play it too safe. You never really get those big moments where his personality gets to shine the way it should. Josh Gad as Chuck and Danny McBride as Bomb are both okay, but again, the jokes are mostly silly one-liners or physical gags that do not really go anywhere. There are a couple laughs here and there, mostly when the movie leans into being a little weirder, but a lot of the humor feels kind of basic or just loud for the sake of being loud. The pigs are the main villains, led by Leonard, who is voiced by Bill Hader. He brings a lot of energy to the role, and his voice fits the character, but the pigs are more goofy than threatening. That is fine for a kids’ movie, but it makes the story feel like it is just moving from one silly setup to the next without much weight or build-up. Now, the animation is actually really solid. The movie looks great, with bright colors, smooth movements, and lots of detail in the backgrounds and character designs. The Angry Birds world is brought to life in a fun way, and the big finale with the slingshot attack is a cool nod to the original game. That whole scene is probably the highlight, and it is where the movie finally embraces the action and chaos in a fun way. But for most of the movie, the pacing is weird. It takes a long time to really get going, and then once it does, it rushes through the final act. There are some songs and pop culture references that feel out of place, and the tone jumps around too much for my taste. I give The Angry Birds Movie 2.5 out of 5 stars because it is not terrible, just kind of average. It has a few laughs, great animation, and some fun characters, but it never fully comes together in a way that really sticks with you. Overall The Angry Birds Movie is an okay watch if you are in the mood for something simple and goofy, but it is not something I would go back to. It is fun for kids, but adults probably will not get much out of it.
- RyezooFebruary 20, 2025Beautiful animation and good story for a film based on an app. Unlike Disney films, the crude and innuendo humor is blatantly on display. That's not a good thing for children but hilarious to me. The third act is awesome.
