The American Society of Magical Negroes Ratings & Reviews
- Marshall MooreAugust 16, 2025The ending was not what I expected
- Kevin WardJuly 1, 2025This was actually way more entertaining than I was expecting. I usually avoid trailers, but this is one that I’d probably see at least a dozen times in the theater. (in my experience, that’s not usually a good thing) The Justice Smith An-Li Bogan romance was actually very cute and I kept getting frustrated when it would pull away from that story. Thought the humor worked well, too, for the most part. There wasn’t a lot of nuance in the satirical aspects, and actually gets rather heavy handed on a few occasions. All of these elements result in an amalgam of tones that just feels messy, for lack of a better word.
- Eric BakkeOctober 11, 2024It has its moments of sharp humor and cleverness, showcasing a premise ripe with potential. However, it struggles to nail down its identity. While the satire offers insightful moments, it occasionally veers into preachiness, detracting from what could have been a truly standout film.
