Supernova Ratings & Reviews
- jackmeatOctober 22, 2025My quick rating - 4.6/10. I am fairly sure I saw this one in the theater and haven't seen it since, so the length works for some background while I work. That was a quick reminder about why I wasn't sure. This is a very forgettable flick. I would've thought with such a great cast, the movie would've been a bit more entertaining, but everyone involved got stuck with a very lame script. The crew of a hospital ship in space receives a distress beacon and ends up intercepting a battered survivor and a mysterious "black hole." Soon, and quite unexplained things on the ship begin happening that make you wonder if there is more to the survivor and the object. Well, you are supposed to wonder since it was so mundane that you don't really much care until they apply the "horror" right in front of your face. And the description makes it sound like there is some monster involved when that isn't the case in the slightest. I have a feeling that the cast is more than happy to forget about this one, since a quick look found this on the list of the biggest box office bombs of all time. The exterior shots in space did look awfully nice, but for the most part, all the tension aboard the ship was overinflated by sound and never really got all that exciting. Our villain wasn't convincing either, which didn't help much. James Spader did take the reins of lead well enough, but it is hard to share the screen with Angela Bassett, who always seems to steal the show.
- eif999January 24, 2025Supernova goes out of its way to be bad but damn if I don’t love this cheese sandwich. Bad digital effect and lots of sexy folk finding reasons to take their shirts off. Basically a bunch of gym rats as doctors solve problems that they mostly created themselves. A decent watch if you go in expecting little. Oh that ending has to be seen to be believed. I wish I saw it with a crowd so I could hear everyone groan.
