Revisiting Superbad at 50 was pure, unadulterated escapism—a glorious two-hour vacation from paying bills, prostate talk, and daily back pain. What hit me most wasn’t just how relentlessly funny it still is, but how effortlessly it teleported me back to a time when the absolute highest stake in human existence was procuring a bottle of bad vodka. For one night, I wasn't worrying about adult shit and work emails; I was just riding shotgun with McLovin and laughing until my side ached. There’s a genuine, heartwarming nostalgia in its chaotic teenage heart that totally holds up. Sure, watching them sprint across town made my knees hurt in sympathy, but letting go of adulthood and sinking into that ridiculous, nostalgic joy was the best medicine I’ve had in some time. It’s a hilarious, brilliant time machine—and worth every minute of staying up past my 10:30 PM bedtime.

Fogell is hot. I like his name, Mclovin. I wasn't expecting to actually laugh during the movie. Seth's drawings were interesting. I like the cops. They're funny. Once again, Fogell is hot.

A high school kid's view of the tribulations of sex, being young and alcohol. Cera is perfectly nervous. Hill is perfectly raunchy. McLovin!

“I Am McLovin!” Would you go out of your way to buy alcohol for a potential relationship despite the consequences? Superbad is a coming of age comedy movie released on September 14th 2007 directed by Greg Mottola starring Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Emma Stone, Bill Hader and Seth Rogen. It follows two High School Senior best friends - Seth (Hill) and Evan (Cera) who attempt to gain large amounts of alcohol for girls they desire hoping to have successfully secured a summer relationship before the College semester commences. The main highlights in my opinion specifically come from the cops (Hader & Rogen) and Fogell/McLovin (Mintz-Plasse) as they provide a more compelling and enjoyable watch. I love their dynamic as they easily steal the scenes they’re in and screen time evoking the most laughs out of me and outshining the other actors by a mile. I really appreciate this era of comedy movies similar to Easy A, She’s the Man, 21 & 22 Jump Street - films that aren’t afraid to offend and just go off the rails which is something we don’t have anymore nowadays. The writing of this movie for the most part is well structured and the awkward dialogue works in some capacity making scenes realistic and relatable. However, the humour can also fall flat feeling out of place leading to repetitiveness and questionable acting. The themes I admired was friendship and the importance of that sense of togetherness because of the deep message to the audience that the precious time we spend with our loved ones should not be taken for granted. I also strongly believe this movie caters towards not only the late-teens - teaching them the consequential conundrums of entering unknown premises and being peer-pressured into hunting for alcohol but to older adults who can interpret this movie as a symbolism of their own high school experiences and nostalgically reminisce about their teenage memories. To conclude, although this movie in my opinion is not one of the best modern comedy movies of all time, I can’t deny its influence and being the pinnacle staple for 2000s comedy movies. Overall Superbad is a jubilant and enjoyable ride with a multitude of laugh out loud moments despite containing several issues so I definitely recommend this movie for all the teenagers and adults however, only to watch it once or twice as in my case my review on this movie had worsened the more I rewatched which also may be contradictory to other people’s opinions.
