It doesn't kill us Hollywood fast. It lets us linger slowly face down in a pool.

You can tell she came from the silent era of acting, she's able to do so much with just her eyes. William Holden is excellent too, delivering maybe the best ever voice-over/narration in a noir. This one is sharp, stylish, and unforgettable, even seventy years later.
