Strange Darling Ratings & Reviews
- rg9400November 1, 2024Strange Darling is a bigger surprise than Oddity this year, and that's really saying something. I had not even heard of this movie until a few weeks ago, and I am so glad I decided to give this tension-filled thriller a chance. From the very beginning, the movie states that was filmed entirely on 35mm, demanding to be seen on the big screen. And it instantly earns that. I don't want to say too much because so much of this movie deserves to be seen fully blind. However, I need to say it has some incredibly creative stylistic choices, both in structure and in cinematography. I just have to applaud the audacity. There is some gorgeous cinematography and a strong score as well. It kept me on the edge of my seat. And I would be remiss if I didn't mention the excellent acting of Kyle Gallner and the star turn of Willa Fitzgerald who builds on her incredible role in The Fall of the House of Usher to put together an absolutely captivating performance. Watch this on the biggest screen possible and support this original and creative movie!
- NonPlayableContentDecember 16, 2024I loved the slow build to how incredibly stupid the last few characters are. Could have been a bit better but that's the story they wanted to tell.
- The Gutter MonkeyMarch 22, 2025An interestingly made little movie that appears to be challenging some widespread narratives.
- neuroparadox7d agoIt's very, very good and surprisingly relatable. Rewatch: Told my friend I had only seen part of this before because I wanted to watch it again and knew he would like it too, even though he's a piece of shit Leafs fan and he pimped me out to a turtle.
- Daniel GustavssonJuly 11, 2025Amazing acting. Intriguing story with clever twists. Even some nice music.
- ElliJuly 11, 2025Wow! What a movie. The acting is insane and kept me on the edge of the seat the whole movie. I thought the chapters would be really weird but it worked well. An absolute must see.
- fraggle67March 2, 2025Absolutely fantastic. With a soundtrack that rewards headphone wearers.
- Kevin WardJuly 1, 2025I echo all of the people saying this is a film that’s best to go in blind. Love the manner in which this unfolds. I was glued to the screen from start to finish. I really don’t want to say anything else for fear of giving anything away. It’s a gorgeous looking film—shot on 35mm they’re quick to point out. (Bravo, Giovanni Ribisi. That paid off. It really looks fantastic on the big screen.) Highly recommend. An extremely fun and twisted little thriller.
- Sarah JJune 17, 2025As my dad likes to say, “nothing good happens after midnight.”
- Matthew JamesDecember 6, 2024This movie only reveals what it needs to, when it needs to do it.
- RyezooFebruary 4, 2025Little over-hyped, but still solid and fun. Visually it looked stunning, I enjoyed the music, and the main actress was incredible in it. The third act and ending is a little wonky to me. Will give it a rewatch with the wife when it comes out digitally.
- Michael HeimgartnerFebruary 3, 20259/10 – A Clever and Unpredictable Thriller This thriller is a masterclass in tension and misdirection. The nonlinear storytelling keeps you guessing, with unexpected twists making every chapter more engaging. Kyle Gallner and Willa Fitzgerald shine, especially the latter as the chilling “Lady.” The score is outstanding, blending classical piano with eerie soundscapes. A bold, gripping ride for thriller fans!
- Rob Logan | The Geek GenerationJanuary 14, 2025I wanted to like it more than I did after hearing so many glowing reviews. Willa Fitzgerald is terrific, the general idea of the story is strong, and the non-linear structure served the movie well. However, I predicted a key element very early on, and the movie itself feels weirdly pretentious in a way it didn’t need to, such as announcing it was shot on 35mm film.
- DJOctober 17, 2024Definitely a contender for thriller of the year. The cinematography was perfect. Willa Fitzgerald and Kyle Gallber were superb. This is the story of a serial killer and the final victims. This film is chaotic, suspenseful and raw. An art piece.
- ChrisJanuary 6, 2025“So, I'm gonna have to ask you a question. Are you a serial killer?” The Lady WOW, shades of “Henry: Portrait of a serial killer”. Willa Fitzgerald and Kyle Gallner had a great twisted chemistry. A very dark methodical pace, oddly the music felt like it was controlling the speed of the movie. 🍿 🎒🔪
