I just watched South Park: The 25th Anniversary Concert and I would give it 3.5 out of 5 stars. I am not the biggest fan of South Park concerts but this was still a fun and entertaining experience. It is more of a celebration than a traditional concert packed with nostalgia humor and some great live performances. The concert brings together Trey Parker and Matt Stone along with Primus and Ween to perform some of the most iconic songs from the show. If you have ever found yourself humming a ridiculous South Park song this concert gives you a chance to hear them in a whole new way with full band arrangements and live energy. The energy of the performance is great. Parker and Stone clearly love what they do and their chemistry is just as strong as ever. They joke around with the audience interact with the musicians and bring a laid back fun atmosphere that makes it feel more like a party than a formal concert. Even though I am not the biggest fan of this kind of event I could still appreciate the passion they put into it. The song selection covers some of the most well known tracks from South Park including fan favorites that longtime viewers will instantly recognize. Hearing songs like Uncle F*er and Blame Canada performed live with a full band is definitely a unique experience**. Some of the arrangements are really well done making the songs feel fresh even if you have heard them a hundred times before. Primus and Ween add a lot to the experience bringing a more polished sound to the music while still keeping the ridiculousness that makes South Park what it is. Their involvement makes sense since Primus created the iconic theme song and Ween has been part of the South Park universe for years. Their performances are solid and they help give the concert a more legitimate rock show feel rather than just being a comedy act. Visually the concert looks great. The stage design lighting and overall production value are well done making it feel like a real event rather than just a casual live show. The energy from the crowd adds to the experience especially during the biggest songs where you can tell the audience is having a great time. That being said the concert is not perfect. While the performances are fun and the music is great there are moments that feel a little dragged out. Some jokes go on longer than they need to and a few songs feel like filler rather than must have performances. If you are a hardcore South Park fan you will probably love every second of it but if you are like me and not the biggest fan of South Park concerts some parts might feel a little repetitive. The pacing is a bit uneven. Some sections of the concert are packed with energy while others slow down more than expected. I found myself enjoying certain songs a lot more than others and some of the between song banter could have been cut down a little to keep things moving faster. Overall South Park: The 25th Anniversary Concert is a fun celebration of the show and its music. Even though I am not the biggest fan of South Park concerts I can still respect the effort and the passion that went into this event. It is a great watch for die hard fans who love the music of South Park but for more casual viewers it might not be something you would rush to rewatch. I had fun watching it but once was enough for me.
