Somewhere in Queens Ratings & Reviews
- Kevin WardJuly 2, 2025Everybody Loves a Good Directorial Debut. This one is pretty good. It’s not flashy in it’s filmmaking but it hits all the right emotional beats. While I would do anything for my kids to make sure they’re successful, I have a hard time imagining I’d do what Ray Romano’s character does here. But in movie world, I’m happy to suspend disbelief (and I’m actually eager to when J-Law’s No Hard Feelings releases later this Summer). Solid and quaint film. I would be up for more Romano directed films. I’ll be curious to see what he takes on next. This reminded me that I still need to see Sebastian Maniscalco’s new film, too. And that Laurie Metcalf is an underrated dramatic actor. I was 🤏 close to only give this 3 stars, but then she delivered an all-time final line and put a pretty big smile on my face.
