Sing 2 Ratings & Reviews
- Manuel FrangisMarch 20, 2025I just watched Sing 2 and I would give it 2.5 out of 5 stars. It has some fun moments and a great soundtrack but overall it feels like a weaker version of the first movie. While the animation looks great and the music is catchy the story just does not have the same heart or excitement as the original. The movie brings back Buster Moon and his crew of singing animals as they try to put on a massive show in a big city. This time they face even bigger challenges including trying to convince a retired rock legend to join them. It is a setup that could have been fun but the way the story plays out feels a little forced and predictable. One of the best things about Sing 2 is the animation which looks even better than the first movie. The colors are bright the character movements are smooth and the big musical performances have a lot of energy. The visuals make everything feel bigger but the problem is that it all looks more exciting than it actually is. The voice cast is solid with Matthew McConaughey Scarlett Johansson Taron Egerton and Reese Witherspoon all returning. They do a good job bringing their characters back to life but the story does not give them much to work with. Bono joins as the rock legend Clay Calloway and while his presence is cool his character does not add as much as you would expect. The music is where the movie shines the most. There are plenty of hit songs performed throughout the film and if you enjoy fun covers of popular songs you will probably have a good time. The musical numbers are well done and visually exciting but after a while they start to feel like the only thing holding the movie together. The first Sing had a nice balance of music comedy and heart but this one leans too much on the music without giving the characters real depth. One of the biggest issues with Sing 2 is that the story feels rushed and shallow. The stakes never feel real and the conflicts are resolved too easily. The characters face problems but they never seem to struggle in a way that makes you care. Everything just kind of moves along without any real emotional weight. The humor is also hit or miss. Some jokes land but a lot of them feel like they were thrown in just to fill space. The first movie had funny moments that felt natural but this one tries too hard to be goofy without actually being clever. Another problem is that some of the characters do not get enough time to shine. With so many returning characters plus new ones the movie tries to juggle too much at once. Some characters feel sidelined while others get too much focus even though their storylines are not that interesting. The pacing is also off. The movie moves quickly from one scene to the next but never really slows down to let anything feel meaningful. It is packed with big performances and flashy moments but by the end it does not feel like much actually happened. Overall Sing 2 is a visually fun but forgettable sequel. If you love the music and just want to see some fun performances you might enjoy it but if you are looking for a great story with strong character moments this one falls flat. I had some fun watching it but it is not a movie I would go out of my way to see again.
- Eric BakkeOctober 12, 2024I don’t have much to add except that Sing 2 features one of the best Dolby Atmos mixes I've experienced. It's significantly more entertaining than the first, packed with great songs and a fantastic soundtrack
