She Wore a Yellow Ribbon Ratings & Reviews
Mister Arn

“She Wore a Yellow Ribbon” is a John Ford Western where cavalry takes the spotlight instead of cowboys. The story centers on duty, aging, and the quiet dignity of letting go. John Wayne plays Captain Nathan Brittles, a veteran officer nearing retirement, who’s fighting both enemies and time. Shot in rich Technicolor, the film earned an Oscar for its cinematography. More than action, it offers reflection on honor, restraint, and meeting the end of a chapter with grace.
Austin American-Statesman

In She Wore a Yellow Ribbon [John Wayne] is nothing short of superb. It is a performance that should, in all right, be a challenger for the Academy award.
The Young Folks
Nathanael Hood
The film boasts one of Ford's more uncommon storylines and some of his boldest uses of color cinematography.
Creative Loafing
Matt Brunson
This earned an Oscar for Best Cinematography, though had a Best Makeup award existed back then, surely Don Cash would have been a contender for superb work that allowed a then-41-year-old Wayne to convincingly pass for someone a quarter-century older.
Classic Film and Television
Michael E. Grost
Classic Western with glorious color, great story telling and an anti-war point of view.
Cinema Sight
Wesley Lovell
A film more notable for its gorgeous cinematography than for its plot.

The second of John Ford's cavalry trilogy is well acted by John Wayne and well shot by Winton C. Hoch, who an Oscar for color cinematography.

John Wayne, John Ford, and Monument Valley in glorious color. What more can you ask for in a western?
Combustible Celluloid

Graceful direction by Ford.
New York Times
Bosley Crowther
Bulwarked with gay and spirited music and keyed to the colors of the plains, "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon" is a dilly of a cavalry picture. Yeehooooo!
Journal and Courier (Lafayette, IN)
Bob Bloom
Splendid John Ford Western; Wayne is great, scenery fantastic. A must-see for any film buff.
Movie Metropolis
John J. Puccio
...a lot of people's favorite Western, and it's good to see it in all its Technicolor glory on DVD.
