Shakes the Clown Notations et commentaires
- ርልዪረ28 mai 2025This movie is a true comedy - you will laugh out loud and hear lines you have never heard before or expected. It's not a clown film for kids it's certainly the adult side of clowning. The amusing aspect is that clowns seem to be the most depressed and cynical. I've heard that to be true, at least about the clowns on the cabaret circuit from a documentary about those days and how the clowns were the most down in the dumps and bitter humans. So that premise alone is comedy gold. Every dynamic is hilarious including the 2 police officers. No wasted scenes or lines in this gem.
- Jacob O’Neal18 juillet 2025If you like alcoholic clowns, Bobcat Goldthwait, Adam Sandler, dark and weird comedy about a town full of clowns and mimes then this movie is for you. This movie was the feature directorial debut of for writer/comedian Bobcat Goldthwait and its rough around the edges, but fits Bobcat perfectly for his brand of humor. The movie is about Shakes, a clown with a big drinking problem. He’s got a loyal girlfriend played by Julie Brown (Cause I’m A Blonde, The Homecoming Queen’s Got A Gun) whom he treats like dirt. He and his friends are battling against an evil clown in town to win a slot being vacated by a long running children’s show host. It forces Shakes to fight against his alcoholism, deal with a loudmouthed Mike played by Robin Williams and eventually have his final battle with the evil clowns to win the day. It’s typical hero’s journey stuff there. The movie hits the mark with its strange world and humor more than it misses. You can see Goldthwait become more confident as a filmmaker after this. If you watch Sleeping Dogs Lie, World’s Greatest Dad or God Bless America and you see a filmmaker who really learned from this flawed first outing and became a very talented filmmaker.
