Scrooged Ratings & Reviews
- RichardOctober 19, 2025Saw this one in the cinema when it came out and it felt like Christmas got mugged by sarcasm and then hugged by sentiment. Bill Murray plays Frank Cross, a cynical TV exec who’s more interested in ratings than holiday spirit. It’s a modern retelling of A Christmas Carol, but with network satire, ghostly chaos and Murray doing his best “emotionally constipated but redeemable” routine. The ghosts are wild: David Johansen as a cab driving Ghost of Christmas Past, Carol Kane as a fairy with a mean right hook and the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come looking like a TV tower from hell. The tone swings hard, one minute it’s slapstick, the next it’s existential dread. But somehow, it works. The ending is loud, messy and oddly moving. I loved the energy, the weirdness and the way it made adult years feel chaotic, sentimental and just a bit haunted.
