Where to Watch Rurouni Kenshin Part I: Origins
- robinzsonOctober 29, 2025This series is honestly the best live-action adaptation of a manga/anime that's been made, to date. Everything from the casting, to the makeup, SFX and action brings what made the source material so beloved and exciting to vivid, three dimensional life! And the best part is, this is only the first of FIVE films in the series - spanning a decade and covering the major arcs of the original manga - all equally good and satisfying! If you love RUROUNI KENSHIN, you must watch this movie! If you love anime and manga, you must watch this movie! If you love martial arts films, you must watch this movie! If you love Asian period films, you must watch this movie! Basically, if you want to be entertained for 2 hours, watch the movie. You won't regret it. 🙂
- HakihikoOctober 11, 2025A Solid Start for the Wandering Samurai "Rurouni Kenshin Part I: Origins" delivers a strong and visually engaging introduction to the live-action adaptation of the beloved manga and anime. It manages to capture the spirit of the source material while grounding it in a more realistic, gritty world. The fight choreography is a standout - fluid, sharp, and stylish - offering some of the most well-executed swordplay in modern live-action adaptations. The cinematography and costume design also deserve praise for immersing the viewer in the Meiji-era setting with authentic detail. Takeru Satoh shines as Kenshin, perfectly balancing the character's calm demeanor with his lethal past, and the supporting cast fits well into the world without overacting. However, the pacing occasionally drags, especially in the quieter, more reflective moments, and the story - while faithful - doesn't bring the full potential to the fans already familiar with the tale. Still, "Rurouni Kenshin Part I: Origins" stands as a satisfying beginning - a solid samurai action film that respects its origins while setting the stage for greater things to come.
