- RichyEOctober 21, 2025I saw this one in the cinema and let me tell you, Mel Brooks didn’t just spoof the legend, he tied it up in green tights and danced it across the screen with jazz hands and a wink. From the moment Cary Elwes struts in with that smug grin and says he can speak with an English accent (unlike some other Robins), I knew I was in for a ride. The theater was alive with laughter, real, belly-shaking laughter. Dave Chappelle’s Ahchoo was a revelation, cracking wise and breaking the fourth wall like it owed him money. The musical numbers? Gloriously absurd. “Men in Tights” had the whole audience clapping along, half in disbelief, half in delight. Seeing it on the big screen gave every gag room to breathe. The slapstick landed harder, the costumes looked even sillier and the satire hit just right. It wasn’t just a parody, it was a celebration of parody. Brooks took the dusty Robin Hood myth and turned it into a vaudeville fever dream, complete with fart jokes, blind swordsmen and Patrick Stewart as King Richard in full Shakespearean flourish. And yes, it was juvenile. And yes, it was ridiculous. But in that cinema, surrounded by people laughing at the same nonsense, it felt like comedy communion. A shared moment of joyful irreverence. A tights clad, pun-packed romp that turned the cinema into a medieval madhouse. Seeing it on the big screen made every joke feel bigger, bolder and brasher and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
