Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé Ratings & Reviews
Tiffie Starchild
May 31, 2025
The fact that this isn’t available anywhere to stream is a CRIME! Beyoncé what have we done to deserve this?! Okay so I recently was able watch this — FINALLLLYYYY! Also don’t ask how. But I don’t think I’m overselling it to say that it’s pretty life-changing. Seeing the incredible amount of work that goes into producing the Renaissance tour - not just from Beyoncé herself, but from the dancers, the singers, the designers, the technicians.. literally EVERYONE INVOLVED! It’s really hard for me to see talent and work ethics like that and NOT be inspired to apply that sort of discipline and commitment to my own life. Obviously being able to re-live the Renaissance tour is incredible, but it’s the inspiration for meeee! If you’re a Beyoncé fan or if Renaissance Summer 2023 was one of the best moments of your life, find a way to watch this docufilm and pray with the rest of the Hive that Beyoncé officially releases it.
Boston Globe
Maura Johnston
[It's] not only an opportunity to catch another glimpse of Beyoncé's dazzling vocals and radiant charisma - it's a chance to go behind the scenes and see how the woman at the center of it all executed her vision.
The Ringer
Lex Pryor
Renaissance is as much about building her image up as it is stripping it away.

Joy is what Beyoncé brings to this very entertaining and tender doc. A contagious sense of optimism and acceptance for everyone. Moviegoers who weren't ardent fans before, will be now.
Fort Worth Weekly
Kristian M. Lin
Contrary to its title, Renaissance seems less like a rebirth and more like a deluxe-sized summing up of all its creators' formidable powers.
RogerEbert.com
Christy Lemire
"Renaissance" is both intimate and vast as it basks in Beyoncé's impossible beauty but also turns the camera toward the audience to emphasize the powerful sense of community the Beyhive provides.
Slate
Nadira Goffe
In embracing what it means to be mortal-and, by extension, human and imperfect-Beyoncé found a way, in this Renaissance era of hers, to celebrate life and liberation.
New York Magazine/Vulture
Angelica Jade Bastién
More than anything, Renaissance is a testament that Beyoncé is a brand that stands for absolutely nothing beyond its own greatness.
Rolling Stone
Rob Sheffield
It's a glorious three-hour tour of the Queen in all her creative splendor... The movie would be a blast if it were merely a jubilant live performance, but it's also a documentary of a year in Bey's life.
AV Club
Drew Gillis
The film is perhaps the most Beyoncé a project has ever been. It's Beyoncé self-mythologizing in a way that's awe-inspiring (or slightly eye-roll-inducing, depending on your mileage) but then proving it with her performance.
The Film Verdict
Alonso Duralde
Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé is really two films by Beyoncé, and while they don't always work well in tandem, each individually pays tribute to Ms. Knowles-Carter's extraordinary sense of showmanship and stagecraft.
New York Times
Wesley Morris
We have before our eyes an entertainer at peak command of her art and therefore herself.
Detroit News
Adam Graham
Sure it's a concert film, but it's so much more than that: "Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé" is a startlingly intimate portrait of the 42-year-old singer, cultural icon and singular force of nature...
Associated Press
Jonathan Landrum Jr.
Renaissance perfectly captures her dazzling performances for the big screen and includes some intimate behind-the-scenes footage from the normally private singer, who has rarely done interviews in the past decade.
Consequence
Liz Shannon Miller
A true odyssey, a maximalist explosion of sparkles and beats and visuals and insight.
Washington Post
Sofia Andrade
The Renaissance tour, as well as Beyoncé's role as the auteur behind it all, and the movie hits its marks.
Chicago Tribune
Michael Phillips
Beyoncé's outrageously lavish five-month 2023 concert tour's mixture of spectacle, spangle, video immersion and dance party has been captured, deliriously, for fans who caught the show live and those who didn't.
Minneapolis Star Tribune
Chris Riemenschneider
Ultimately the 2-hour, 48-minute run time does seem about a half-hour too much. But hey, isn't every superhero movie too long these days?
Los Angeles Times
Mikael Wood
It's a celebration of talent, yes, but also of the commitment, the sacrifice, the sheer tenacity required to pull off the illusion of effortlessness.
Variety
Steven J. Horowitz
It's satisfying without being indulgent, but most of all, it's a monument to Beyoncé's status as one of pop's most enduring figures, and everything it takes to get there.
