The city of Spokane, Washington is awakened by a North Korean paratrooper invasion. Marine Corps veteran Jed Eckert and his civilian brother, Matt, escape with a group of friends to an isolated cabin in the woods, where they witness the execution of their father at the hands of the ruthless Captain Cho. The brothers unite with their friends to form a guerrilla resistance group--the Wolverines--to drive the invaders from their home.

I gave it a half a star because, hey, they served Ju Ju Beans in the theater. The 1984 movie was a gem. The 2012 version was not. The characters were obnoxious and annoying. The writing was terrible and the plot bordered on retarded. Whomever approved this release should have gotten jail/prison time or have register as a person with the IQ of a fence post. This movie was truly that bad. I suspect the third version of this will involve an invasion from a few dozen folks from the Falkland Islands or Samoa. Jeffrey Dean Morgan with a razor-wire wrapped bat would have made the movie far more interesting. I digress.

Red Dawn is a decent enough action thriller that I enjoyed. The plot is neat and executed very well. The cast is pretty stacked and all do a great job. The action sequences are intense and executed pretty well. But the film definitely should have been R rated because there is almost no gore al all and that really takes you out of the film for sure. The movie also should have taken time to get to know the characters more. Overall it’s a solid film but nothing great.

Feels like it should hit harder than it does, but everything’s a bit too clean and predictable. The pacing keeps it watchable and there are a few solid action beats, but it never really builds any weight behind them. Chris Hemsworth is kinda meh, and the rest of the cast doesn’t do much to elevate things either. It’s fine for a one-time watch, just pretty forgettable overall.

Red Dawn (2012) attempts to reboot the 1984 cult classic with a modern twist, swapping Soviet invaders for North Korean paratroopers and casting rising stars like Chris Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson. Despite its energetic action sequences and updated visuals, the film was widely criticized for its lack of character development, logical inconsistencies, and a muddled narrative that failed to capture the urgency or emotional depth of the original. Critics found the remake uninspired and overly reliant on clichés, while audiences gave mixed reactions, appreciating the spectacle but lamenting the absence of substance. Rating: 2.5/5 for me.

Well, it’s not the worst movie I’ve ever seen….
but it felt like it at times. Some of the acting is legitimately terrible (Josh Peck😬) and it kind of brings down some of the better parts of the film.
You can safely skip this….or maybe hate watch it.

The original Red Dawn was a cultural and classic from the 1980s that wasn’t afraid to comment on the all too real Cold War conflict. This new updated version came out during the early days of the woke mind virus. The film’s original antagonist, China, was switched to North Korea. Despite a young up and coming cast led by Chris Hemsworth, the film lacks the gritty realness and overall sense of dread from the original. MGM’s decision to not have China or Iran as a modern day antagonist speaks to the studios cowardice to create a film that could have been a big conversation starting hit. Instead we get a Red Dawn in name only that fails to even come close to being as memorable as the original.

It's not unwatchable, just a bit of a lifeless remake of an already only "decent" movie.

I think this is a great movie that in some ways is better than the original. I feel like the objective of the movie is a little more developed than the first. The change of location I don't know is better, but it does offer some more varied scenarios than what the original did. Definitely worth multiple watches as this was I think my third time watching this movie
