- Garrett Wilkins17 oktober 2026Rabid feels like a remake that has gone out of its way to remove everything unique about the original. The Soska sisters take David Cronenberg’s grimy body-horror classic and replace its ugliness with flat digital photography. The sterile clinic interiors make the movie feel even more sanitized, and there is little sense that the filmmakers are interested in making the audience uncomfortable. That is a serious problem for a movie built around bodily transformation. Laura Vandervoort puts genuine effort into the role, but even she cannot do much with a sluggish story that recycles familiar horror beats without generating much tension. The occasional practical gore effect provides a brief reminder of what this movie should have been, but those moments are few and far between. The bigger failure is what gets lost in the attempt to modernize the material. The original Rabid had a strange personality and enough social and psychological unease to make the horror feel like it was about something beyond the next gruesome scene. This version reduces those ideas to a hollow sci-fi exercise that feels more like a generic assignment than a passionate reinterpretation. Bodily autonomy and viral paranoia are still present, but the film never gives either idea enough bite to matter. A few makeup effects work, but they cannot rescue a movie this devoid of personality. Rabid feels dead on arrival, a sanitized remake of a film that was never supposed to be this clean.

- cloudsrival3 februari 2026Screenplay needed a lot of work. They don't establish the characters at all. We just get inserted into their lives. We barely know who they are, and we don't get a chance to empathize with them when something bad happens. The bad things that happen are VERY underplayed. They barely talk about people being murdered in public. And the ending is flat-out stupid. She's not rabid or a creature, and any homage to Cronenberg is completely unnecessary.

- cubano116 oktober 2025It was just meh. Not terribly inventive or interesting. The main character was flat, the premise was disjointed. It was only worth watching because I'm bedridden nursing an injury and was a little bored.
- DigitalDisappointment2 mars 2025Yet another interesting concept ruined by a truly retarded ending. Did you like "The Substance" but think it should have ended half an hour sooner? This one's no different. The movie would have been good if it had ended with some mystery intact - not GREAT, though, cuz the 'cause and effect' they put forward with rabies is utterly preposterous.
