Private School Ratings & Reviews
- Matthias_812April 3, 2025Teen/sex comedies from this era are my comfort movies. Even the worst produced ones still pique my interest and I manage to come out entertaines. They're always outlandish and focused on being fun. Private School embodies the era's mix of hilarity, romance, and hijinks. A lighthearted exploration of the high jinks and romances within an elite private school setting. The playful tone and energetic performances from the cast bring a youthful and vibrant energy. Betsy Russell riding a horse baring it all is just one of the greatest sequences I've ever seen in one these movies, I'm surprised it's not hailed as a classic for that alone. The movie strikes a balance between risqué humor and innocent romantic comedy, making it a fun watch for 80's coming of age films. Private School remains a lighthearted and enjoyable trip, capturing the spirit of adolescence, first loves, and the antics that come with navigating the complexities of high school life.
- SoCalPete_July 25, 2025Private School (1983) is a rollicking, cheeky time capsule of '80s teen comedy that makes getting an education at an elite boarding school look like the wildest party you never got invited to, complete with the ultra-sexy Phoebe Cates and Betsy Russell stealing every scene with their charm and wit. The film follows the misadventures of Cherryvale Academy’s students, where learning takes a backseat to hormone-fueled hijinks, especially from frat boys Matthew Modine, Michael Zorek, and the dim-witted Roy, who stumble into shenanigans like sneaking into the girls’ dorm or staging pranks that’d make a principal’s hair turn gray. With its blend of slapstick humor, risqué gags—like that iconic shower scene—and a soundtrack that screams leg warmers and neon, it’s a nostalgic joyride that reminds you why the '80s were the era of “study hard, party harder.” This guilty pleasure is a fun walk down memory lane, proving high school was less about textbooks and more about dodging detention with a wink and a smile.
