Their bond grounds the story and gives emotional weight to themes of loss, resilience, and the lingering trauma of domestic violence. Unfortunately, the magical aspects—meant to add whimsy and mystery—often feel silly, disjointed, and at odds with the darker, more serious material. The inconsistent approach to magic undermines the film’s attempts at suspense and dilutes the impact of the family curse that drives the plot. While the production design and atmosphere are appealing, the uneven storytelling keeps the film from reaching its full potential. Practical Magic is heartfelt and engaging in parts, but its tonal imbalance ultimately holds it back.

The first 30 minutes of the movie seem to be very disjointed. If there's a directors cut I need to watch it
