- adam3199June 10, 2025In the RAN Dad served in almost every theatre of WW2: the Pacific, the far east, the mediteranean, but in the north atlantic he did a few years and reluctantly he related to me one day of his life as a 20 something on Russian Convoys (I was 12 when he was in his late 50's). After he told me this story of one day manning Bofors, all the glamour in my mind evaporated. I never asked him about WW2 ever again. He just wanted to forget this horror and enjoy simple things and make every day great. And he did! An incredible sacrifice from a silent generation.
- Shamus2kNovember 10, 2024Excellent documentary about the ill-fated Convoy PQ 17, which was ordered to scatter in July 1942 due to fears of a German battleship. The decision left the convoy vulnerable, resulting in the loss of 24 ships. The film examines the controversial order and the dangers faced by the crew. Little is known by the average person about the sacrifices and experiences of merchant Marines and their escorts during world war II. This is one of the finest produced and presented.
