I am genuinely convinced there is nothing wrong with Paul Rudd

Felt like a vanity project created so Paul rudd could sing for an hour. The film itself isn't terrible but bogged down and the promising premise feels like it should be a straight comedy. This was really a drama.

The weakest John Carney movie for sure. Paul Rudd barely makes an effort which is a shame since Nick Jonas did a good job playing a thin written character... Anyway they do stick the emotional landing so that makes it worth streaming.

“This song can mean many different things to many different people.” Well, that Pearl Jam “Alive” poster is like RIDICULOUSLY on point then Warning: saccharine (what else would you expect from John Carney?) As sappy and cheesy as this was, I honestly loved it. Found it hilarious. Too much singing esp since a LOT of that is of the same song, but that was to be expected I guess. Here’s some catty remarks: Awful film title. Not great marketing. Tough sell for an R-rated audience! The editing in the first co-performance had no continuity and was so frustrating. Half of the time Paul was stealing the mic and half the time he had his own. Come on. Stupid natalism Saw the ending coming from a mile away, but it was still cute That girl from Tuner loves to be a musician or their muse! All that said, it was very funny! Paul Rudd has so much charisma and is good in the dramatic bits too! Sandy was a blast! Watched at Warren Regal East with my mommy (who is also named Sandy!) Currently Ranked #29/91 in 2026 Ranked

It genuinely saddened me to see a film with more heart, soul, and humanity than most modern releases playing to an almost empty screen. We can, and should, do better in supporting films like this. What lifted my spirits, however, was just how wonderfully brilliant POWER BALLAD is. Another beautifully written, funny, moving, uplifting, emotionally rich musical from John Carney.

Horribly cheesy and predictable with zero resolution at the end. Who was this movie made for? It's a children's movie with swear words and awful music.
