Planet of the Vampires Ratings & Reviews
- Patrick WaiFebruary 1, 2026I fully respect Planet of the Vampires (1965) as a sci-fi milestone. It basically walked so Alien could sprint, and Mario Bava wrings some striking visuals out of a shoestring budget, colored fog, and pure vibes. Film history students, rejoice. Everyone else? Good luck. The movie moves at a glacial pace, the dialogue sounds like it was carved out of driftwood, and the performances are so stiff they could double as crash-test dummies. The real horror isn’t the alien possession — it’s watching these poor actors sweat through impossibly tight leather uniforms while delivering lines like they’re being punished for something. Important? Yes. Entertaining? Only if you enjoy admiring the bones of better movies that came later.
