I just watched Pixels, and I give it 5 out of 5 stars. I know this movie gets a lot of hate, but I do not care — I had a blast. It is fun, loud, ridiculous, and packed with old-school video game nostalgia. This is one of those movies you watch when you want to turn your brain off and just enjoy something goofy and cool. And for me, it absolutely delivered. The concept is already wild. Back in the 80s, NASA sent a time capsule into space with examples of Earth’s culture — including footage of classic video games. Aliens intercept it and misinterpret the games as a declaration of war. So they show up years later in the form of those exact games, ready to attack Earth. It sounds insane, but it totally works because the movie never tries to be something serious. It knows what it is, and it has fun with it. Adam Sandler plays the main character, and this is actually one of my favorite versions of him. He is more laid back here, still sarcastic, but not over the top. He plays Sam Brenner, a former arcade champion who gets pulled in to help stop the alien invasion. Kevin James plays the President — yes, seriously — and while that sounds ridiculous, it somehow fits the tone of the movie. Josh Gad brings some chaotic energy and has some great lines, and Peter Dinklage steals a few scenes as a cocky gaming legend. The real star though is the effects. The way they bring classic games like Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Centipede, and Galaga to life is awesome. The action scenes are actually exciting, and the giant pixel-style destruction looks cool without being too overwhelming. When Pac-Man is tearing through the streets and the humans are driving around trying to outsmart him, it is easily one of the best parts of the movie. The visuals are bright, colorful, and just the right amount of over the top. What I really liked is how much love this movie has for old-school video games. If you grew up playing these or spent any time in an arcade, you will definitely get hit with that wave of nostalgia. The sound effects, the visuals, the music — it all brings back that feeling of the 80s in the best way. It is silly, but it is also kind of sweet. It is like a love letter to a time when games were simple but still meant everything to the people who played them. The humor is dumb in a good way. There are a lot of one-liners, awkward moments, and physical comedy that just works if you are in the right mood. Not every joke lands, but most of them got at least a laugh or a smile from me. It is not trying to be clever or edgy — it is just trying to have fun. And sometimes that is all you need. I give Pixels 5 out of 5 stars because it is exactly the kind of movie I can rewatch whenever I need something light and fun. It does not take itself seriously, and that is what makes it so entertaining. It is fun, nostalgic, and just a great time from start to finish. Overall Pixels is a crazy video game adventure that made me laugh, made me cheer, and reminded me why I love retro games so much. It is just pure fun, and I loved every pixel of it.

These producers were so preoccupied with whether or not they could make this, they didn't stopped to think if they should.

Avoided watching this movie for a long time. Would have enjoyed it a lot more if I was younger.

I watched Pixels on streaming and to my surprise, I had a lot of fun with it. The movie leaned into its video game nostalgia, turning classic arcade characters into larger than life threats and that playful concept made it entertaining. It wasn’t trying to be high art, it was aiming for lighthearted spectacle and in that sense, it delivered. The humor was goofy, the action sequences were colorful and the whole thing felt like a love letter to retro gaming wrapped in a blockbuster package. While critics were harsh, I don’t think it deserves all the hate. Sometimes a movie’s job is simply to entertain and Pixels did exactly that. It’s the kind of film where you can sit back, enjoy the ride and smile at the absurdity of seeing Pac-Man and Donkey Kong wreak havoc in the real world.

Not much to say but otherwise that I guess it’s a lovely film especially since it’s based around old video games and of course with the contributions of various actors such as Adam Sandler and Kevin James. Plot was fine but definitely could’ve been better.

A long awaited tribute to the pixelated heroes on the Atari that kicked off home video gaming and killed the arcade machines. Without Galaga, Pac-Man, Centipede, Space Invaders, Atari, etc there wouldn’t be Spectrum, Commodore 64, Mega Drive, Super Nintendo, PlayStation 1,2,3,4,5 and all the consoles that followed. Most are up in my attic nowadays, but they all have their place in history and some fond memories. Pixels is an entertaining homage to a time when the arcade was brought into the family home...and we still had time for a kick about outside with friends...unlike today’s kids who cannot kick a football or ride a bike. Great film, brilliant cast and as imaginative as the great minds that brought us video gaming and so much fun...the graphics have advanced immensely, yet, in the 80s the pixels was mind blowing!

This is a movie about Peter Dinklage coming to the decision to fuck over every last future dwarf actor for all time because he played a role that doesn't actually have to do with dwarfism. Spoilers: He wins.
