A modern fairy tale with heart, and what a cast! Christina Ricci gives this gentle resilience, James McAvoy in his pre‑Atonement charm era, Catherine O’Hara has that rare gift of making you laugh at a character’s flaws while still letting you feel the fear underneath. Peter Dinklage brings bite to this sweet story, and Reese Witherspoon always shines in whatever role she plays including producing this 2006 film.
