Viewers of Billy Wilder's classic 1960 film, "The Apartment", will recognize the general theme to "Paradise Motel". Similarities pretty much stop there however, preventing any confusion between the two. Instead of an office clerk (Jack Lemmon) loaning his apartment to his wife-cheating superiors, in order to climb the corporate ladder, we have the new kid in school (Gary Hershberger) doing the same at his dad's motel, to some popular kids, so that he can raise his social status. About the only bright spot is character actor, Bob Basso, as the dad (in Wilder's script it's a next-door neighbor) who comes to a misunderstanding about his son's sexual prowess or lack thereof. Otherwise, it's pretty much dull city. The soundtrack, full of original songs, is instantly forgettable and the video quality is reminiscent of a VHS cassette. You will likely want to exit "Paradise Motel" before the scheduled check-out time.
