Out of the Loop Ratings & Reviews
Movie Madness Podcast
Erik Childress
The film could have just been another collection of quips from working stand-up comics, but it digs further into the social and racial dynamics of the city of Chicago and how negotiating that is just as important as the jokes.
OurQuadCities / WHBF-TV (Illinois)
Linda Cook
It's a seriously funny look at the history of Chicago standup comedy.
SF Weekly
Richard von Busack
Out of the Loop is one of those documentaries that seem like a podcast carried out by other means, with talking heads interspersed with glorious looking drone footage of Chicago. But there's a wealth of cultural history here, intelligently collected
Third Coast Review
Steven Prokopy
It's a frequently thankless, competitive, brutal occupation, but when a performer clicks with an audience, it's also addictive. And Out of the Loop captures the entirety of that experience quite beautifully.

A funny and surprisingly insightful look at Chicago comedy. It highlights how there is more to Chicago than The Second City improv group. That being said, as good as it is, the film is strictly for fans of stand up comedy.

I loved the Chicago stand up era described in this film, so called me biased, big deal. There is a nice twist in this talking head doc, different than I thought it would be, but very necessary in any look at Chicago history. Star Packed & City Gritty!
