The movie "One on One" features Robby Benson as a basketball player, but unfortunately, he doesn't come across as a believable player. Therefore, it makes sense that his coaches would want to remove him from the team. Meanwhile, his breathless speech leaves the girls feeling “weak in the knees.” It’s that sex appeal that makes this film memorable, but not much else.

No one... will find a lot to like about One on One.
Los Angeles Free Press
Ruth Batchelor
If Robby Benson's smile doesn't make you melt, you haven't got a heart.
Chicago Sun-Times
Roger Ebert
The movie's concocted out of story ingredients as old as the hills... but it's acted with such grace and good humor that we really care about what happens.
TV Guide
An earnest, mostly believable study of the psychological struggle that can occur between player and coach.
New York Times
Vincent Canby
It also has some very good sequences that are not at all expected, including the smashing basketball game that concludes the film.
