My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 Ratings & Reviews
- Manuel FrangisApril 15, 2025I just watched My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, and I give it 5 out of 5 stars. I know sequels don’t always live up to the original, but this one brought back everything I loved and then some. It is like being invited back to a big Greek family gathering you didn’t realize you missed so much. It reminded me once again why these movies hit so close to home. As someone who’s Greek, I saw my family all over this movie — the chaos, the food, the yelling, the love — it’s all there, and it still works. This time around, the story focuses on Toula and Ian years later. Their daughter is getting ready to leave for college, their marriage has become a little routine, and the extended family is still very much in everyone’s business. But things take a turn when it’s discovered that Toula’s parents, Gus and Maria, were never officially married. That sets up the next big wedding — with all the loud, loving madness that comes with it. Nia Vardalos is once again the heart of the movie. She brings that same charm and humor back to Toula, but you can feel she’s grown. She’s juggling being a mom, a wife, a daughter, and still trying to take care of everyone around her. Her performance is funny and grounded, and she carries the story in a way that feels really honest. John Corbett as Ian is still the calm one in the storm, and their dynamic still works just like it did in the first movie. But let’s be real — the family is the real star again. Michael Constantine and Lainie Kazan as Gus and Maria are hilarious and full of heart. Watching them deal with this surprise marriage situation had me laughing way more than I expected. Gus still thinks everything comes from the Greeks, still sprays Windex on everything, and still wants to marry off his relatives as fast as possible. Maria, as always, is strong, clever, and quietly in charge of it all. Andrea Martin as Aunt Voula once again steals every scene she’s in. Her one-liners are perfect, and her over-the-top storytelling is still gold. Every time she opens her mouth, it’s something dramatic, awkward, or wildly inappropriate — and I loved all of it. The movie balances humor with real emotion. It’s not just about the wedding. It’s about growing older, letting go, keeping traditions alive, and figuring out how to keep your family close when life starts to pull everyone in different directions. That part hit me. Especially the scenes about Toula and her daughter — those were surprisingly emotional, and I think anyone with a tight-knit family will feel it too. I give My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 5 out of 5 stars because it made me laugh, made me feel something, and made me proud to be Greek all over again. It may not be as fresh as the first one, but it still has heart, still has laughs, and still understands what it means to grow up in a family that never, ever leaves you alone — in the best way. Overall My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 is a feel-good, heartfelt, and hilarious return to the Portokalos family. It is a celebration of love, tradition, and what it means to belong to a big, messy, loud, and beautiful Greek family. And I loved every minute of it.
