The film deserves four stars for its intensity. The director captured the impact propaganda has on young, immature minds. Propaganda molds children into future soldiers and corpses, protecting itself by: "We must defend our Motherland!" They prepare children from an early age for war, hatred and the obligation to die. Everyone should see! Everyone should see what this nation is being prepared for. And what we need to be prepared for.

In a rush to make a splash, both David and Pasha forgot to credit the people who also shot the film. Even The Act of Killing cited Anonymous and Anonymous as assistants, once all are safe, and the film is ready for release, don't forget the little people. While it is a very important subject, and a terrible descent into militarization today, the film seems off. I can't put my finger on it. I get the sentiment, which will appeal to Americans, but it is too sentimental for me. Maybe just the music forcing the emotions unnecessarily. Ironically, given its subject, it feels like propaganda. I would be curious to hear Ukrainian takes on it. Also there is a big gap: I cannot find any info on who brought the initial story to David Borenstein. It seems major parts of this story are missing. Could it have been a CIA psyop? It has all the hallmarks of Radio Liberty. I don't blame the filmmakers in any way, who did a very brave and great job. They may have been totally unaware. But some interference? Everything seems very convenient. Saying all of that, (it seems we are not allowed to be critical of films in an intelligent way any more, without being hounded or trolled) I think Pasha and David did a very good job, and it is a very necessary film to have been made. A very sad reflection on Russia and its government repeating the mistakes of the past.

The juxtaposition of innocence and the unnecessary evils and tragedy of war. This whole story told from a man who believes that what he’s told to do is completely wrong, when everyone else thinks it’s right or scared. Brilliant. Must see.

Really compelling doc. Good companion piece to something like Navalny. A teacher, tires of feeling like a propagandist for the Putin regime and begins documenting the militarization of his school. Seems like such a hard realization to come to, to find that the country you love is perhaps not really the same country. And that it may not even be safe for you to live there anymore.
