The stunning expressionistic opening scene with striking use of silhouettes had me sold. As the film progressed I was drawn more into this tale about inherited trauma, guilt and redemption

Did you grow up with a bully? If so, you are wise to kill them. If it worked for this movie's protagonist, it can work for you.

Watched the Criterion Channel version which is beautiful. Interesting that the film was originally a big-budget John Garfield film. Things changed, the cast of no names and the budget cut to nothing. A real treat. An anti-film noir. A dark damaged man find redemption after killing someone. Love this film.
